Draft Environmental Assessment

Notice of Availability
Draft Environmental Assessment for
Concourse and Terminal Parking Expansions
At Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ)
Sarasota, FL

Description: Interested parties are hereby notified that a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared for the Proposed Action described below.

Authority: The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the lead federal agency for this EA, which is being prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended (42 U.S. Code 4321, et seq.), FAA Order 1050.1G, Environmental Impacts, Policies and Procedures, and FAA Order 5050.4B, National Environmental Policy Act Implementing Instructions for Airport Actions.

Proposed Action: The Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority (SMAA) proposes expansions to passenger terminal and parking facilities at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), referred to as the Proposed Action. The proposed concourse expansion would involve construction of a two-level concourse from the existing ground-level portion of Concourse A to Concourse B. The proposed concourse would provide net three additional gates, and consist of approximately 65,000 SF, comprised largely of circulation space and hold rooms, with remaining space allocated to restrooms, concessions, security checkpoints, and administrative/support areas. Terminal parking expansion would include the construction of a four-level parking garage located south of the passenger terminal across from the curbside roadway, which would provide approximately 3,700 parking spaces and enable relocation of the rental car customer facilities from the baggage claim hall to the new garage.

SMAA is considering two alternatives: the Proposed Action Alternative, which would implement the Proposed Action; and the No Action Alternative, which would not implement the Proposed Action but provides a comparative baseline for potential impacts.

The Draft EA evaluates the potential environmental impacts from implementing the Proposed Action. The evaluation concludes there would be no significant impact, either individually or cumulatively, as a result of implementing the Proposed Action, which includes compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations, including consultation and permitting, and routine best management practices.

Public Availability: The Draft EA will be available between September 20, 2026, and November 4, 2026, for a 45-day public comment period. The Draft EA was published digitally on the SRQ website at http://flysrq.com/press-release/draft-environmental-assessment. Printed copies of the Draft EA are also available for public review at the Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library, 2801 Newtown Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34234, and the South Manatee Branch Library, 6081 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34207.
