SRQ Receives Airport Health Accreditation

On October 7, 2020, the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) received an Airport Health Accreditation Certificate from the Director General of Airports Council International World (ACI).  ACI is the global trade organization that represents all the world’s airports.  The certificate recognizes the airport’s commitment to prioritizing health and safety measures in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Council Aviation Restart Task Force recommendations and is in alignment with the Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines.  ICAO, a specialized agency of the United Nations consisting of 193 member countries, adopts standards and best practices for airports worldwide.
 
“Receiving ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation validates our commitment to providing passengers with a clean and safe traveling environment when using SRQ.  Since the start of the pandemic, we have worked with our tenants and the TSA to implement multiple layers of cleaning and safety measures.
 
For our current budget year, we are spending over $1.2 million dollars on janitorial services to ensure the terminal facility meets or exceeds industry best practices for cleanliness and safety.  We are also spending over $200,000 to upgrade our restrooms to a fully touchless experience.  We have implemented numerous measures throughout the terminal including plastic shields at all customer service counters, touchless hand sanitizer stations, social distancing markers in queuing lines, and courtesy thermal temperature scanners.  You will also see employees, tenants, and passengers wearing protective face coverings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
 
We understand the importance and necessity of these expenses and plan to continue dedicating funds and resources toward these efforts even after the pandemic recedes,” stated Rick Piccolo, President, CEO of the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.
